DATE.    27th, 28th & 29th January 2017
STAKE JUDGED.    C.D., U.D., W.D. & T.D. Stakes.
SQUARE STEWARD                                    Friday & Sunday - Doug Tate, Saturday -Vicky Dixon
C&A STEWARDS                             Caroline Woods
TRACKLAYERS                               All Stakes - Caroline Woods

Many thanks to Working Trials Club of Ireland for the invitation to judge their January Trial and for the lovely gift. Thank you to Trials Manager Nigel Tate for the work prior to and during the trial, as well as opening his home up to us as the base. We all really appreciate what you do to keep the trial going, the hospitality shown to all makes it a super weekend.
To Trials Secretary/Asst. Trials Manager Caroline Woods, for the huge amount of work in the lead up to and during the trial, in particular as you were tracklayer for all (bar one) tracks, many thanks.
Also a huge thank you to Miriam and Marie, catering department, food was fantastic as always.
Thank you to my square stewards Dougie and Vicky, everything spot on as you would expect and as I mentioned above, to my tracklayer and C&A Steward for all stakes, Caroline, super job, thank you so much.   The weather was quite mixed over the three days, Friday started wet but improved as the day went on, Saturday was a lovely sunny day and on Sunday it threw rain at us again.  However, the ground was in super condition, lovely well grown grass so despite the weather the dogs turned out some brilliant tracks.
We had a few scratches so the three days were very relaxed, thank you all for entering and giving me the opportunity to watch your dogs work.
Lastly thank you to the farmers for the use of their land, without their help we would not have a sport.

C.D. STAKE: 3 Entries, 1 Ran                      No placings

Caroline Walsh & POLLY ROO WALSH didn’t attempt all exercises so no placing.  When Polly decided to slow down a bit she did a good square, a bit distracted on the retrieve but such a happy enthusiastic girl, keep at it Caroline.

U.D. STAKE: 6 Entries, 6 Ran                      No placings

BEST TRACK – Marjorie Briggs & TRILITE UNIQUE (Weimeraner)  86½ + 20
Samantha Rawson & CARRY ON REGARDLESS, very nice track 84½ + 20, followed by a nice square.  Jazz is not quite ready for the jumps yet so Samantha used the control round to do some training.
Miriam Lyons & KALIAZAR DANCER, another lovely track 84 + 20 from another promising youngster.
Roberta Bolster & EILENBURG KUKI, good track and square from Kay 81½ + 20 + 31, followed by a nice control round.  Unfortunately just out on the jumps, Roberta decided not to attempt stays in the rain.
Angela Higgins & WAGGERLAND ALL SPICE, lovely track 86 + 10, lovely square and control exercises, unfortunately went out on the jumps so Angela also decided not to do stays in the rain.
Mary Rose Hickey & LAVRINCO HUCKLEBERRY FYN, started well on the track but had a bit of a hic up just before the first article.  Well done on a nice square.

W.D. STAKE: 4 Entries, 1 Ran         No placings

BEST TRACK – Miriam Lyons & Kaliyon Laoise
Lovely track and good square from Laoise 84 + 20 + 26, it was raining hard so Miriam decided not to attempt the C&A

T.D. STAKE: 2 Entries, 2 Ran.
1st        Samantha Rawson & W.T. CH. RYANS DAUGHTER  QEx 206½ pts. and BEST TRACK
Tr. 94 + 30  Sq. 35  Control 29  Ag. 18½
Well done Samantha & Sassy, a lovely confident track, very tidy in all sections resulting is a great overall mark and another well deserved win.  Unfortunately, as there were only 2 entries, no green star awarded.

2nd        Vicky Dixon & RUSTIX ALI  QEx  183 ½ pts.
Tr. 92 + 20  Sq. 31½    Control 25  Ag. 15
A lovely track from Ali, just a bit distracted in the square to start off with but she then applied herself well.  Control was a bit nail biting but I was delighted to be able to award this team their TDex, well done and good luck for the future.

World Agility Open (WAO) Championships Oviedo, Spain – 17th to 19th May, 2013

Republic of Ireland Team  Selection Tryouts (held under Special Licence of the IKC)

Sunday  18th November 2012  At 10.00 am  Streamstown, Malahide, Co. Dublin.
Open to Grades 4 to 7 dogs Closing Date: 18th September,  2012.

TEAM SELECTION

For 2013 the team selection will  take place in two ways:
For the “WIN ON” places in each jump height, as  required in the WAO Rules, there will be a 4-round qualifying competition for
Grade 6/7 dogs. The dog with the most points, in each of the four WAO height categories, will be guaranteed a place in the individual Biathlon and Pentathlon classes on the Republic of Ireland squad. Points will only be awarded to dogs
accumulating 5 faults or less WITHIN THE COURSE TIME.

The “ON MERIT”
places are open to Grades 4 to 7 dogs who have taken part in this qualifying
competition. These dogs and handlers, who have not WON their place on the Team,
will be assessed on their performance at the qualifying competition. We will be
looking for people who are able to show that they have the ability to handle,
and complete WITHIN COURSE TIMES, tough international courses. They must also be
able to demonstrate that their dog has been trained to an equally high level.
All dogs will be expected to have the following skills: 1) A Stay on the Start
Line, 2) Independent Weaves and Contacts, 3) Be confident handling Obstacle
Discriminations. On that basis, Anne Collen (Team Coach) and I, will select the
remainder of the squad by the end of December. Should the numbers/standard for
the qualifying competition not be suitable, we reserve the right to introduce
additional dogs that have not attended the selection day.

  Please be  aware:
- Competitors will be responsible for their own expenses i.e. entry fees, travel etc. to the WAO competition.
- As the competition is in Spain a pet passport will be required.
- Handlers must be prepared to put some effort into getting themselves AND their dogs FIT for the WAO.
- Handlers must be fully committed to doing everything possible to prepare themselves and
their dogs in the lead up to the WAO, e.g. Attend team training sessions and  compete at all suitable Shows.
Full details of the event can be found on www.worldagilityopen.com
Please feel free to contact me if you need further  clarification on any of the above.

World Agility Open 2012 Managers report

5/26/2012

W.A.O. REPORT.
Belgium
18th - 20th May 2012

This year the WAO Championships were held in Neeroeteren, Belgium. The team
travelled over by various different routes at various different times and all
arrived safely, if a little tired.

THURSDAY :
The day started with the VETERINARY CHECK for all dogs and
also measuring, for those dogs that hadn't been measured last year. All dogs
measured into their correct height, unlike poor Italy who had to send a dog home
as it was over height!
Next, was the PRACTICE SESSION in the Main Ring to get our dogs used to the
equipment and the running surface. As we had 14 dogs, we were allocated 28
minutes in total, 2 minutes per dog. Teams were encouraged to bring a CD with
music that could be played while practice was going on. Hearing Jedward singing
' Put the Green Cape On ' I'm sure helped our handlers put a spring in their
step!!!!!
The OPENING CERMONY took place at 6.30.
Jenny Hale carried our flag and
led the team out into the Main Ring. Everybody looked very smart; handlers in
their green Team Ireland uniforms and dogs in their wonderful sparkly collars
and team leads.
 FRIDAY :
The day started bright and early at 7.30 with course
walking.
We were unlucky to be drawn in the Group that had to negotiate
first, what was probably the most difficult course of the entire weekend. This
was an agility course by UK Judge, Lee Gibson. Our only dog to succeed in
getting around was Donal Ayton and little Oscar.
Our dogs ran in various
other classes during a very long day. We had some lovely rounds but with bad
luck here and there, things just didn't go our way.
 SATURDAY :
An even earlier start.....7.00 course walking!!!
We were
delighted to have got 4 of our dogs through from Friday, to the second round of
the Individual Pentathlon. Well done to Donal Ayton and Oscar, Karen Kelly and
Shep, Mick Byrne and Molly and Liam O'Brien and Mojo.
The second and final
part of the Games class took place. Sheila Maher and Holly finished up in 14th
place overall, which was very commendable with Sheila being new to this
class.
 SUNDAY :
Final round of the INDIVIDUAL PENTATHLON.
Well done to the
only Irish dog, Oscar handled by Donal Ayton for qualifying for the Final. He
had survived 4 gruelling rounds over the previous 2 days to get into this final
20 dogs, and then kept his head to negotiate his way round yet again in the
Final.
Well done to our Team dogs and handlers who made it through from 2 rounds on
Friday and 2 on Saturday, to the FINAL SPEEDSTAKES RELAY on Sunday; John Ward
with Stan, Sheila Maher with Holly, Sinead O'Donovan with Tiggie and June
Archbold with Lily. Well done guys...you all coped really well with the added
stress that comes with being part of a Team.
 THANK YOU to the following:
PATRICIA DUNN our Games Coach, who worked tirelessly both before and during
the event, we couldn't have managed it without you.

GROOMS/MINDERS : Jenny Hale, Debbie O'Neil, Eilish Timoney, Evelyn D'Arcy,
Geoff Archbold, Helen Ward, Nigel Tate.
You all did a great job looking after
our team's many needs, keeping them calm and cool, getting them to the start
line at the right time, looking after all the dogs needs as well......you were
brilliant!!

TEAM SUPPORTERS :
Thank you to everyone who travelled out to support the
team. We more than held our own in the volume level created and also in the
dance move department!!!! It was great that each team member got a great cheer
to welcome them into the Ring and even louder cheering after their round.
It
was also great that some of you were able to give up your time to help out at
the event. This was very much appreciated by the organisers.

FUND RAISERS :
A final BIG thank you must go to everybody who supported
the team either by donating money or fund raising or both. Sending a team to
Belgium would not have been possible without you all. €10,400 was raised which
was absolutely fantastic.

So, a great experience for all concerned.  GO TEAM IRELAND!!!!

WTCI Demo Day

5/3/2012

WTCI Demo Day was a great success despite the cold and breeze, Event organiser Sinead O’ Donovan started the day by arranging a brilliant display from the Irish Obedience Team who represented Ireland earlier this year at Crufts.
They arrived in their team uniforms looking very smart, they as always make Obedience look so easy, it was great to see them relaxed and working their dogs to perfection. You will often see some of them train at the club on a Sunday but it is when they are together you really get to see the joy it brings training their dogs to such a high standard.
Next we had John Ward work through the “Good Citizen Test”with some of his class. All of those in the demonstration were once looking for assistance to help with their family pet….. And the achievements are amazing;
it just proves it is possible!!!
Jane Corcoran Judged a Beginner Agility & Jumping Competition, This Competition is aimed towards those people who have never
competed before, This Class Competition holds all the requirements that are involved in a show, from registering to course times, faults if any and Results. It was great to see the support given to each other yet with a hint of competition!
The best way to describe this is to see the pictures…. See the link below.

Watch out for all these new competitors in the future…….

Finally Thank you to all the experienced Agility people who came
with their dogs to participate in the day’s demo, Thank you to all that worked
the Demo from Timing, Scribing, course assisting and the two wonderful ladies
who kept us fed and watered. Thank you to john Higgins for yet again catching
the day’s excitement on film!

Till next year!!!!!
